Study design
The Ege Study is a clinical trial with a 2×2 factorial design based at eight haemodialysis centres in Turkey. The principal aim of the trial was to investigate the effect of high- or low-flux dialyzers and ultrapure or standard dialysate on cardiovascular outcomes. Individuals were eligible for inclusion if they were aged between 18 and 80 years and were on thrice weekly haemodialysis. All patients provided written informed consent. The local ethics committee of Ege University approved the study protocol.
