Study design

The Niguarda-Monzino Study (NIGUARDA-MONZINO) is focusing on lipid clinic patients and is based in Milan, Italy. Individuals attending for the first time the Ultrasound Laboratory of the University Centre for Dyslipidemias E. Grossi Paoletti (Niguarda Hospital, Milan, Italy) due to lipid or lipoprotein abnormalities undergoing a carotid intima-media thickness ultrasound scan and individuals attending for the first time the unit for the study of arterial morphology and fuction of centro Cardiologico Monzino were enrolled in the study. The principal aim of NIGUARDA-MONZINO was to study subclinical atherosclerosis in the underlying population. Oral informed consent was obtained from all the patients. The study was approved by the Institutional Review Board.
