Study design

The Kuopio Ischemic Heart Disease Risk Factor (KIHD) Study is a general population study based in Kuopio, Finland. Male individuals living in Kuopio city and surrounding communities were enrolled in the study. The principal aim of the study was to investigate risk factors associated with atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease and related outcomes. The study protocol was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the University of Kuopio. All subjects gave written informed consent for participation.
